Sputtering Caliente, CA earthquake swarm kicks out a M 4.2 quake

Foreshocks and aftershocks, continued
The Caliente swarm was particularly active a few hours before the M 4.2 temblor. The action began at 8:30 p.m. on the 23rd, producing a few light M 1.0s in three hours. Then at about 2 minutes past midnight on January 24, a M 2.6 earthquake was recorded. The rate of activity picked up and briskly produced six tremors in the next hour, including three more M 2.0s. At 1:11 a.m., a M 3.7 earthquake shook the region and six minutes later the M 4.2 jolt occurred.

Aftershocks have been rather sparse, producing only a few M 1.0s in the subsequent hours. The internet virus that plagued the Southern California Seismic Network may have contributed to the date recording of the aftershock sequence.

Felt Reports
The quake was sharply felt locally, rattling windows and jarring people from sleep, but there have been no reports of damage or injuries at time.

Scant data suggests the earthquake was felt from Porterville in the north to Frasier Park in the south. Most of the reports came in from Tehachapi where people reported low rumbles of the ground that were accompained with sharp vibrations. Windows shook, pictures on walls rattled, and dishware in cabnets chimed in with tinckling sounds. A few people reported light items, like bedside pictures and cardboard cerial boxes, toppled to the floor.

There were no reports of car alarms going off.
