Foreshocks and aftershocks
There were no foreshocks and no aftershocks have been recorded at this time.

Felt Reports
The quake was felt by many people on the Humboldt County coast, spanning a distance from Eureka to Garberville. Did you feel this quake? Where were you and what were you doing? How did you find out about the quake? Fill out our pool at the right.

Most noted brief ground shudders that shook walls, rattled windows and caused hanging plants to swing. There were no reports of toppled items from tables or shelves.

Background Information:
Earthquake activity on the California North Coast has been relatively light in recent years, not once reaching the 30-year average of 17.5 events in the last six years (see graph below).

While the early-mid 1990s produced seven quakes registering M 6.0 or stronger, none have occurred since then, the last happening in 1996.

This recent event was the first M 4.0+ to strike the North Coast region in two months and comes about seven hours after a M 4.3 event hit the Hollister area of Central California.
