| Moderate earthquake shakes LA and Ventura Counties
Page 2, Simi Valley M4.2 earthquake report Felt Reports Did you feel this quake? Tell us what you felt! It was felt as far north as Taft and as far south as Rancho Palos Verdes and Cypress. Some reports have form in from as far east as Fontana and as far west as Goletta. People within ten miles felt the strongest shaking and included communities of Fillmore, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Thousand Oaks, Chatsworth and Northridge. Some people said the shaking lasted for nearly ten seconds but this may be a bit long for the relatively light magnitude. Some were frightened and others were alarmed. Some said the shaking lasted long enough that they began thinking of their safety, but stopped before they could do anything. Some people said they were exhilarated and thrilled. More Information Although the Northridge aftershock zone died out some years ago, small and moderate earthquakes have occurred here from time to time. In fact, it was last January that the last M4+ quakes occurred in the vicinity, a M4.3 and a M4.0 some 24 minutes apart on January 14 in San Fernando. This was the second M4 temblor in Southern California this month (see Borrego Springs M4.2 on January 2). Tensions have been running high in the Los Angeles region about a stronger earthquake ever since a series of tremors struck the Beverly Hills area last Fall, including one as large as M4.2 on September 9. But tectonic action there has relaxed in recent months and has again favored the southeastern portion of the region.
