Moment Tensor Solution - September 20, 2001 - Mendocino earthquake
UC Berkeley, Seismology Laboratory
============================================================================================================
This is a preliminary UCB moment tensor solution for the event located 84km W of Petrolia, CA (40.444N 125.270W; Z=2.4; ML=4.5). A Mw 5.1 and depth of 8 km were obtained from long-period data recorded by BDSN stations ORV, YBH, HOPS, WDC. The discrepancy between the short-period and long-period magnitude estimates has been observed in other events located along the Mendocino Fracture Zone.
Best Fitting Double-Couple:
Mo = 4.46E+23 Dyne-cm
Mw = 5.07
